What is ShiftControl?
Your company uses ShiftControl to manage your work apps, identity, and security. Here's what that means for you.
The Short Version
ShiftControl is your company's platform for managing work applications, identities, and security. It provides you with:
- An employee portal at app.shiftcontrol.io where you can see and launch all your work apps
- An org chart to find colleagues and understand team structures
- Visibility into your security settings and account status
Your ShiftControl account is created automatically when your IT team adds you — you don't need to sign up separately. To log in, just go to app.shiftcontrol.io and sign in with your work email. You'll be authenticated automatically through your company's identity provider.
How It Works at Your Company
Your company uses JumpCloud as the identity system. JumpCloud manages your login, password, and multi-factor authentication. ShiftControl connects to JumpCloud to give you and your IT team a better experience.
What this means for you:
- You log in with your JumpCloud credentials (email and password)
- You set up MFA through JumpCloud (usually an authenticator app on your phone)
- When you click on a work app that has SSO (single sign-on) enabled, JumpCloud handles the login — you'll see an MFA prompt before being logged into the app
- Your employee portal at app.shiftcontrol.io shows all the apps available to you
How It Works at Your Company
Your company uses three systems together. Here's what each one does:
| System | What It Does For You |
|---|---|
| Google Workspace | Your email, Google Drive, Calendar, and Google login. This is probably what you use most day-to-day. |
| JumpCloud | Provides single sign-on (SSO) to the work apps your organization has configured for SSO. When you click an SSO app, JumpCloud securely logs you in. |
| ShiftControl | Your employee portal where you see all your apps, org chart, and account info. Also what your IT team uses to manage everything. Log in at app.shiftcontrol.io. |
What this means for you:
- You log in with your Google account for most things
- When you open an SSO app, if you're already authenticated to Google, the Google part is automatic — you'll just see the JumpCloud MFA prompt before the app opens
- Your employee portal at app.shiftcontrol.io shows all the apps available to you
Will I see two MFA prompts? Usually not — if you're already logged into Google, that step is automatic. You'll typically just see one MFA prompt from JumpCloud when opening an SSO app. However, if your organization uses JumpCloud as the primary login (instead of Google), you may occasionally see two prompts — one for JumpCloud authentication and one for the app itself.
How It Works at Your Company
Your company uses Google Workspace as the identity system. Your Google account is your primary work identity — email, apps, and login all go through Google. ShiftControl provides the employee portal where you see all your apps, and is what your IT team uses to manage everything.
What this means for you:
- You log in with your Google account
- 2-Step Verification through Google keeps your account secure
- Your employee portal at app.shiftcontrol.io shows all the apps available to you
ShiftControl vs JumpCloud Portal
You may notice you have access to two portals:
| Portal | URL | Use It For |
|---|---|---|
| ShiftControl | app.shiftcontrol.io | Your primary portal. See all your apps, org chart, account info. Better experience overall. |
| JumpCloud | console.jumpcloud.com | Managing your MFA settings. You'll see the same apps here, but ShiftControl is the better experience for day-to-day use. |
Use ShiftControl for everything. You'll see the same apps in both places, but ShiftControl provides a better experience with org chart, app organization, and additional features coming soon.
The only time you need to go to JumpCloud directly is to manage your MFA enrollment (adding a new device, changing your authenticator). JumpCloud handles MFA automatically when you open SSO apps — it'll prompt you when needed without you having to log into the JumpCloud console.
Logging Into ShiftControl
Go to app.shiftcontrol.io and enter your work email address. ShiftControl will automatically redirect you to your company's identity provider:
- Most likely you'll be redirected to Google for authentication, which then connects to JumpCloud
- You'll be redirected to JumpCloud to authenticate with your password and MFA
- You'll be redirected to Google to authenticate
Once authenticated, you're in — no separate ShiftControl password needed.
What's Coming
ShiftControl is expanding what's available to you as an employee. Coming soon:
- Employee directory — Browse all employees and groups in your organization
- Your groups — See which groups you belong to and what access they give you
- Access requests — Request access to apps, groups, or resources directly through ShiftControl
What You'll Need to Do as a New Hire
Your IT team will send you setup instructions for your identity provider. See the Onboarding Guide for step-by-step instructions on setting up your account, password, and MFA.
